Shopping for a six-year-old is manageable. Shopping for an eleven-year-old is where many moms find themselves stuck—and it’s worth talking about why
Around size 10, girls' clothing runs out. What replaces it is juniors' sizing, which is cut for a different body and designed with almost no coverage. So you get a daughter who has outgrown the children's section but isn't ready, physically or otherwise, for what's in the next one. Meanwhile she's started having opinions about what she wears, which means "modest" now has to also mean "she'll actually put it on."
The brands worth your time are the ones that carry sizing through 14 or 16 and cut it like clothing a tween would choose herself.
1. Nuggles — best for everyday girls' and tween basics
Sizes: 4T, 6Y, 8Y, 10Y, 12Y, 14Y

Our girls' range runs 4T through 14Y in the same styles we make for women. The Girls' Classic Midi Skirt is $22.99 and comes in the same colors as the women's version, so a mother and daughter can wear a matching skirt without either of them compromising.
The thing we'd point to for tweens specifically is the Girls' Essential 3/4 Tee at $8.79. At that price you can buy several, which matters at an age when clothes get destroyed and outgrown on roughly the same schedule.
For school and sport, the Girls' All-Sport Skirt is $29.99 with leggings built in, which solves the playground problem without anyone having to think about it.
Where we're not the answer: we stop at 14Y. If your daughter has outgrown that, you're into women's sizing, and our women's range starts at S. We also don't make girls' formal or flower-girl dresses. Dainty Jewells does that properly and we'd send you there.
2. The Main Street Exchange — carries the furthest into the tween years
Sizes: Girl 4–16
Prices: girls' skirts roughly $28–$39
Based: Gordonville, Pennsylvania
Girl 16 is the highest girls' size we found anywhere in this category, which makes them the best answer to the tween gap specifically. They run the girls' sizes through the same skirt styles as the women's range, and they have a Mommy & Me collection.
They're a family-run shop outside Lancaster with a physical store, trading since 2012. If your daughter is 13 or 14 and between sizes, start here.
3. Ivy City Co — best for matching family occasions
Sizes: 12–18M, 2T, 3T, 4–5, 6–7, 8, 9–10, 11–12, 13–14
Based: Riverton, Utah
Ivy City cuts the same dress for women, girls, and babies, so matching is the design intent rather than a couple of token pieces. Their mini sizing reaches 13–14, which covers most of the tween band.
This is occasion pricing, not everyday pricing. For a wedding, family photos, or Easter, it's the strongest option on this list. For school clothes, it isn't.
4. Dainty Jewells — best for girls' occasion and flower girl dresses
Sizes: Small through XX-Large in girls'
Prices: girls' dresses roughly $20–$88, most between $50 and $70
Based: La Grande, Oregon
Around 51 girls' dresses, leaning vintage and feminine, with matching mommy-and-daughter versions of many styles. If you need a modest flower girl dress or something for a Christmas program, this is the specialist.
Their girls' sizing uses letters rather than ages, so measure rather than assuming. Their return window is 15 days, which is shorter than most, though you can choose between store credit and a refund minus the return shipping.
5. Roolee — a large kids' section, if you're willing to filter
Sizes: a mix of letter, numeric and age sizing, roughly 2 through 18
Based: Logan, Utah
Roolee has a genuinely big kids' and girls' range and four physical stores across Utah, Idaho, and Arizona. Worth being clear about what it is, though: Roolee is a general boutique, not a modest brand, so a fair amount of the girls' range isn't modest by most definitions. Their sizing is also inconsistent between products because they stock many labels.
Good for browsing if you're nearby. Frustrating if you need every option on the page to work.
Worth knowing
Inherit is a strong brand for women, but their girls' range was very small when we checked in August 2026. Worth a look if you already shop with them, rather than a starting point.
Kiki Riki makes girls' shells and layering tops sold through modest retailers and Amazon rather than direct. Useful if you need a plain long-sleeve layer under a school uniform.

For everyday clothes, Nuggles carries 4T–14Y and Main Street Exchange carries Girl 4–16, which is the furthest into the tween years of any brand we found. For occasion dresses, Ivy City (to 13–14) and Dainty Jewells are the two specialists.
What sizes do girls' modest clothing brands go up to?

What do you do when a girl outgrows girls' sizes but women's is too big?
Two workable options. Look for brands with a stretch or elastic waistband, since a women's S in a pull-on skirt fits a wider range of bodies than a fitted one. The most common thing we hear from mothers is that it works better when the daughter picks the color. The cut is your decision and the color is hers. It sounds small and it makes a large difference at eleven or twelve.
