A modest athletic skirt is a knee-length or longer skirt with leggings or shorts sewn in, so it stays put when you run, lift, or play. Nuggles makes All-Sport Skirts in 27-inch and 31-inch lengths with built-in leggings, in sizes S through 3XL, at the same price in every size.

If you have ever tried to find workout clothes that cover what you want covered, you know the search takes a while. Most activewear is cut short and tight, and the brands that do it modestly are small and spread out. We went through the ones we know and checked each one's own website so you can compare lengths, sizes, and prices in one place.

A note before you read further: Nuggles wrote this post, and Nuggles is on the list. We put ourselves first because it is our blog, not because we think we win every category. There is a whole section below on where another brand is the better choice. Prices and sizes were checked in October 2026 on each brand's own site. Prices change, so confirm on the product page before you order.

Quick answer: which modest athletic skirt should you buy?

For a skirt with leggings built in, sizes up to 3XL, and a price under $40, start with Nuggles. If you wear XXS, look at Snoga Athletics. If you need 4X, The Main Street Exchange has one skort style that goes that high. If you want a drawstring and side pockets, look at Inherit's Kenedi. If you want a plus-size midi with attached leggings, Kosher Casual has one. The details are below.

Nuggles All-Sport Skirts

Nuggles is a family-owned modest clothing company in Glenpool, Oklahoma, open since 2013. Our athletic line is skirts with leggings built in, plus sport swim dresses. Here is what the skirts are:

  • Two lengths: a 27-inch skirt and a 31-inch skirt. The built-in leggings are the same length as the skirt.
  • Sizes S through 3XL, and the price is the same in every size. The regular price is $37.99 for the 27-inch and $39.99 for the 31-inch.
  • 85% polyester and 15% spandex, with UPF 50+ sun protection in the fabric.
  • A smooth wide waistband, and the product pages say it fits true to size.
  • Girls' versions in sizes 4T through 14Y.

One honest note on stock. Our sport skirts sell through color by color, and some sizes and colors are sold out at any given time. The collection pages show what is available today.

Snoga Athletics

Snoga Athletics describes itself as a modest activewear company established in 2015. It sells skirted leggings, skirts, leggings, tops, and dresses, so it is the closest thing to a full modest workout wardrobe on this list. Its site lists skirt lengths from 18 inches (above the knee) to 22 inches (knee length) to 24 to 26 inches (below the knee), plus ankle-length styles, and says sizes run XXS to 3X in every length. The Fit Snoga 22" was $65.00 when we checked, and the site lists free US shipping over $99 and 30-day returns.

The Main Street Exchange

The Main Street Exchange sells modest athletic skorts, most with hidden shorts built in and one style, the Jessica 3/4 Leggings Skort, with leggings. Most of its women's styles run XS to 3X, and one, the Modest Athletic Knee Length Skort at $47.99, goes up to 4X. The Ally Athletic Skort was $46.99 and the Zoey Skort was $39.99 when we checked. It also carries girls' skorts in sizes 4 to 14.

Inherit Clothing Co

Inherit's Kenedi Sport Skirt with Leggings is the one to look at if you want pockets. Its page lists a drawstring, side pockets, a 25-inch legging inseam, and a 34-inch total legging length. The fabric is 75% nylon and 25% spandex. Sizes run XS to 3XL, and the regular price was $58.00 on the page we checked.

Kosher Casual

Kosher Casual sells swim and sport skirts that do double duty. Its knee-length swim and sport skirt with attached shorts and a pocket was $54.90 with UPF 50+ protection, and its plus-size midi skirt with attached leggings was $49.00 with UPF 50 protection. It also has a girls' swim and sports skirt with attached leggings at $39.90.

Dona Jo and Dainty Jewells

Dona Jo, based in Fort Myers, Florida, makes tennis and court skirts and skorts in lengths from 13.5 to 17 inches. That is shorter than most modest cuts, so we are listing it for readers who want a court skirt rather than a knee-length one. Dainty Jewells announced an Active Edit collection of athletic-inspired dresses in July 2026. We have not listed specifics for it because we could not confirm sizes or prices.

Where Nuggles is not the answer

We would rather you buy the right thing than the thing from us.

If you wear XXS or need 4X

Our sizes start at S and stop at 3XL. Snoga lists XXS, and The Main Street Exchange has one skort style, the Modest Athletic Knee Length Skort, that goes up to 4X.

If you want a full workout wardrobe

We make skirts and sport swim dresses. We do not make workout leggings, tops, or jackets. Snoga sells tops and leggings alongside its skirts.

If you want pockets or a drawstring

Inherit's Kenedi Sport Skirt with Leggings lists both. If either is a must for you, start there.

If you want a tennis-length skort

Dona Jo is built for the court, and its lengths run 13.5 to 17 inches.

How to choose a modest athletic skirt

What length covers enough?

Pick the length by what you will be doing. A 27-inch skirt with capri-length leggings works for walking, the gym, and sports where you need room to move. A 31-inch skirt gives you more coverage when you are lifting or bending. If you are between lengths, our guide to choosing a modest skirt explains how to measure from your waist.

Do the leggings need to match the skirt length?

Not by rule, but it changes how the skirt looks and moves. On our All-Sport Skirts the built-in leggings are the same length as the skirt, so the hem and the leggings move together. Some brands run the leggings longer, down to the ankle, which gives more coverage underneath.

What should the waistband do?

It should stay where you put it. A wide, smooth waistband does not roll or dig in. A drawstring lets you adjust the fit during a workout, and Inherit's Kenedi has one.

Frequently asked questions

What is the best modest athletic wear brand for women?

It depends on what you need. For skirts with built-in leggings under $40 in sizes S to 3XL, Nuggles. For XXS, or tops and leggings to go with a skirt, Snoga Athletics. For 4X, one style at The Main Street Exchange. For pockets and a drawstring, Inherit's Kenedi.

Where can I buy modest workout skirts in plus sizes?

Nuggles goes up to 3XL at the same price as every other size. The Main Street Exchange lists 1X to 3X on most of its women's skorts and 4X on one style, and Kosher Casual sells a plus-size midi skirt with attached leggings. You can also browse our plus size skirts.

Can I swim in a modest athletic skirt?

Only if the brand says so. Kosher Casual markets its skirts for both swim and sport. Our All-Sport Skirts are made for sport and everyday wear, and our swim pieces are the sport swim dresses, which we cover in our swimwear post.

Do modest athletic skirts come in girls' sizes?

Yes. Nuggles makes girls' All-Sport Skirts in sizes 4T through 14Y, and a girls' athleisure skirt in black. The Main Street Exchange lists girls' skorts in sizes 4 to 14, and Kosher Casual has a girls' skirt with attached leggings. Browse girls' skirts to see what is available.

How do I know which size to order?

Our All-Sport Skirt pages say the skirts fit true to size, and each has a size chart. Measure your waist and hips and compare before you order. The size chart pages for the skirts are linked on each product page.

Is the fabric see-through or too warm?

Our All-Sport Skirts are made from a lightweight, breathable sport fabric, 85% polyester and 15% spandex, with UPF 50+ sun protection. For any brand, hold the fabric up to the light and read the reviews on the color you want before you buy.

Where to start

If you want to see our skirts first, the athletic skirts collection has every color we have in stock, and our earlier post on modest athletic skirts with built-in leggings covers how the skirts are built. Thank you for trusting us with something as personal as what you wear to move. We are rooting for you.
